Upcoming Events

Sunday 14th December 2025 – Killala and Ross Strand

Colm Madden and Mick Oates will lead this outing which usually provides some interesting sightings.  On arrival, it should be mid tide and rising.   Excellent views can be achieved with a telescope from the pier.  Moving on to Ross Strand you will have the option to walk along the beach to view waders, gulls, cormorants and divers or scan the sea from the car park.  Between Killala and Ross by R314 there is an area of mudflats where large numbers of teal and wigeon congregate.  There is limited parking here by an electricity sub-station.  Our newly acquired telescope(s) may be available for this event.

Non members of BirdWatch Ireland are welcome as are children who must be accompanied.  Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions.  The walking here is easy and dry.  We might move to a beach area if there are few birds at Mulranny.  The event will be cancelled if there is a Met Eirean weather warning for the area.  Notification will be posted on WhatsApp “BWM Info” and by email and our media platforms if possible.  Donations to the Mayo branch of BirdWatch Ireland which help fund our branch activities are gratefully received.
