Downpatrick Head

Downpatrick Head is situated on the north Mayo coast just northeast of Ballycastle. Be aware that this site is not suitable for children due to the unprotected cliffs.

Directions:

Take the turn towards the sea in Ballycastle at the Killala end of the town. Continue for about 3km then turn left and after 1km you will see the car parks.

Walk up towards the promontory with its views of Dún Briste.

Offering fantastic views of the cliffs and its nesting seabirds (Fulmars, Guillemots, Razorbills), Wheatear and Meadow Pipits in the summer and passage migrants in the autumn.

It is also suitable for whale and dolphin watching.
